In the late 60s Cat Stevens had been a teen pop sensation. However, the manufactured
sound and image didn’t sit well with him. Following a brush with death at the end of the
decade, he re-emerged in 1970 as a long-haired acoustic troubadour on a journey of spiritual self-discovery. His physical transformation was matched by the change to his music and ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ was the first glimpse audiences got of the new stripped-down acoustic sound that would resonate in the hearts of listeners worldwide for generations to come.
